Thank you, CORT, for sponsoring today’s post! As always, all opinions are my own.
So maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but I didn’t know that renting furniture was a thing.
Did you? Come on, I can’t be the only one!
Renting furniture is VERY MUCH a thing, and it’s something a lot of us (especially us millennials) could really benefit from.
Here are a couple reasons why renting furniture totally makes sense:
No moving van necessary
Think about it. A lot of us in our twenties tend to move quite often. Some of us move out for the first time, some of us get summer jobs and internships, some of us decide to spend semesters away in different places. No matter what it is that takes us somewhere else, the point is, we’re moving. To a new house or apartment, and usually, that means we have to find a way to take our stuff with us, right? I mean, we’re not going to sleep on the floor, are we? So you know what that means? It means you have deal with the hassle of getting a moving van and bearing the cost of transporting whatever it is that you’re taking with you. But when you rent furniture from a company like CORT, you don’t have to worry about any of that! CORT delivers furniture right at your door, puts it together for you, and that saves you lots of dollars in moving costs (not to mention the headaches).
Get your rooms looking pretty ASAP
You wanna know what happens when you move into a new house and you try to make it pretty right away? You spend lots and lots of money! Joe and I just did this, so trust me, getting any room properly furnished hurts your wallet big time. That’s why people will tell you to furnish your house little by little. Only get the stuff that you NEED. Don’t worry…you have years to get your home looking how you want it. Yea, that’s what they tell you. But what if you DON’T have time to do that? Like, what if you have all your family coming over to spend Christmas with you and you don’t even have a dining table? That’s a problem! But when you rent furniture from CORT, you can rent a whole bunch of home supplies, from lamps to shower curtains, that you need for just a month or two, and then you’re good! No having to worry about dropping $6K+ on a credit card. No having to worry about buying all this stuff that you won’t need long-term. None of that, and that makes things so much easier!
Explore and play with different décor ideas
So in November, Joe and I moved into our new house, and it was the first time in my entire life that I had to really decorate anything. Turns out, I suck at decorating! I’m working on it, but when I first started buying things, I was just buying whatever I thought was pretty, without thinking about what style I was shooting for. As a result of my lack of planning, I bought pieces that didn’t go together, and some of them, I got stuck with. I also thought that I’d like certain styles, and when I saw them executed, I hated them. Now that I’ve played around a bit with décor, I’m now a little closer to knowing what I really like, but the first couple months, this was a very expensive experiment. Had I been renting furniture, I would have been able to change up my décor relatively easily, and I would have been able to play around with styles and colors without the permanent cost of buying things. So for us millennials, especially when we’re first starting out, renting furniture is the way to go when we’re trying to figure out what the heck we like as far as home decorating goes.
Don’t have to worry about selling it later
So let’s say you buy a whole bunch of furniture to furnish your apartment for the month or two or five that you’ll be living in it. What happens when you head back home, or what happens when you move into a new place that doesn’t have the space for you to keep it all? What do you do with it? Typically, you try to sell it, but let me tell you, it can be a pain to do that sometimes. So how do you sell it? Well, you put up a Facebook post. You put it up on eBay. If that doesn’t work, you try Craigslist. But tell me, do you really want to go through that hassle? Ugh. I know I don’t. The beauty about renting furniture is that when you don’t need it anymore, that’s it! You give it back, and you stop paying for it! No need to text all your friends asking them if they know anyone who needs a dining room table.
No need to feel guilty about getting rid of it
This one is huge. When Joe and I moved into our new house, we had tons of pieces of furniture from our old place that we didn’t know what to do with. See #4. So instead of selling it, we ended up giving away so many pieces. Pieces that Joe paid a fortune for when he first moved into our old place. Then, there were pieces that I hated, but I held onto them just because it hurt to throw them away. I felt guilty, having spent so much money on them, to just throw them away like that. Now, those stupid lamps are just taking up space in my garage. Had we rented some of those pieces, I wouldn’t feel so guilty getting rid of them. I wouldn’t feel so attached to them, and it’d make the de-cluttering process so much easier.
So give this a shot! Know anyone who’s doing some moving in the near future?! Make sure you spread the word about renting furniture and CORT, and help your friends save lots of money!

What?!?!? I didn’t know this was a thing either! I will need to look into it when we move before we have all the furnishings for our house! 😉
I’ve never really thought about the benefits of renting. I like knowing that something is mine and not worrying about if something happens to it. But it would be nice come moving day!
CORT sounds like a pretty cool service! We have definitely been buying things one thing at a time considering the only furniture we currently have is a bed, couch, and two side tables.

renting appliances/whiteware is surprisingly common where I live. Definitely convenient especially if you’re living kind of a temporary life/not sure what the future holds.
I can see why it would be useful to rent furniture, especially appliances: I have had to move my fridge a few times and it was a PAIN! Oh and I feel you about the furnishing a house from scratch situation: that’s where I’m at and it feels like there’s always something to buy! We’re doing it little by little though so it doesn’t hurt our wallet that much!
I didn’t realize you could rent furniture! This does sound like a great idea for when you’re saving up money or when you are living in more of a temporary living situation!

Wait, I need this! I’ve been looking everywhere for a coffee table, but don’t want to spend a lot of money in case I move. This seems like the perfect solution, thanks!

Renting furniture is awesome! I actually rented from CORT one summer during college when I was doing an internship away from school and home. It worked out wonderfully!
I definitely did not know that renting furniture was a thing, either! We’ll be buying ours, but holy moly what a cool option for new post-grads! CORT sounds like an epic company!
Coming Up Roses
When I moved to Bangalore, it was all new thing for me. Most of the people prefer to rent than buying furniture. Even I ordered Furniture on Rent from Guarented.
I have purchase bed for rent from Guarented ,the product is in very good condition.I have good experience about Furniture for rent in Bangalore.
When we have to move to a place for a couple of months, we first look for an accommodation. If we take a home on rent, then we must have to bring in the most required furniture. We are getting stuck thinking on how to procure them. For temporary basis, it is better to have rented furniture. You should find out the
best furniture rental company providing services in your locality. Be sure about their plans and check whether they could satisfy your needs or not. Usually, longer the days would make you pay less. It depends on companies.
All these awesome reasons are true that’s why I am also renting some furniture now.
these are some really good tips for people who keep on moving from places to places due to their work. they can rent a furniture as per their need and desire. thanks for sharing such an informative post
Wow, it’s interesting that there are businesses where we can rent chairs and pieces of furniture. I love that you mentioned that you weren’t as creative as you thought. I could totally relate to that. And I appreciate you for helping me have an idea about renting things first to avoid spending too much money on pretty things that wouldn’t even fit with the style of the house. Thanks!
