This week, everyone’s been sharing tutorials on how to customize your home screen due to the new iOS 14 update, so here’s how I did just that PLUSSSS some of my favorite apps as a mom of 2.
Hope you find this helpful, and if you do end up adding some widgets or changing your background, make sure to share your home screen and tag me over on Instagram so I can see them!
Widgets
One of the nice new features of the iOS 14 update is that you can now place widgets on your home screen. The giant pink calendar at the top of my screen and the little white box with the “Just Breathe” text are examples of two widgets that I added.
I used two apps to create all of my widgets. The first one’s called Widgetsmith. That app lets you create calendars, text, even photo widgets and lets you customize the fonts, background colors, borders, and a whole bunch of other things so you can create the aesthetic you’re looking for.
The second app I used is called Motivation. It let me add a widget that rotates through a bunch of motivational quotes throughout the day. Highly recommend for those times when you need a kick in the butt to get you through the day.
Aesthetic App Icons
So even though I didn’t go through the process of creating shortcuts for my apps and then changing the icons to fit my “theme,” I still think it’s a cute idea. Here are a few app icon packs you can purchase from Etsy that’ll save you a bunch of time! Just buy them, save them to your phone, and then you can use them as the icons for your apps.

Background
I always get a bunch of questions about what app I use to create this cute background with my kids’ faces on it! I use an app called Patternator and it lets you upload images from your camera roll to create different patterns like that. You can play around with the color and the style, and it’s so much fun! Legit haven’t changed my background in ages because I love it so much!
Other Apps I love
So as a mom of 2, I’m constantly juggling a bunch of things throughout the day. I use my phone to keep me organized and it helps me both in caring for the kids and in my business. Here are a few apps I use all the time:
- Huckleberry – a baby feeding/sleeping/pooping/all the things tracker
- Goodbudget – how we keep track of our finances with virtual envelopes
- Daily Bible Verse – the perfect way to start off the morning with scripture
- Countdown – a visual timer that’s great for kids
- Disney+ – my saving grace in times of meltdowns
- Lightroom – how I edit my photos using my presets
- UNUM – how I manage my instagram photos
And that’s it in a nutshell! Hope you guys enjoyed this little iOS 14 home screen tutorial and that you liked seeing what’s on my iPhone! What about you guys? Have you been liking the iOS 14 update? Have you played around with the new features? Let me know!

Kayla
