Congratulations! You are not a tree!
Well obviously, but I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this…
You don’t like where you are in your career? Okay, so change it.
You don’t like your boyfriend? Okay, get a new one.
You don’t like the relationship you have with your staff? Fix it.
You don’t like the direction your company is heading in? Steer it in a new one.
Too often we fail to remember that we can change things.
Instead, we complain and we vent. We annoy people to death with our problems.
It seems that we’re great at pointing out all of the things that we’d like to change, yet we struggle with the understanding that we can do more than just complain.
So why don’t we change things?
Because we’re scared? Because we’re comfortable?
These are not good enough reasons.
Maybe it’s because we get to a point where we feel that we’re stuck?
Well guess what…
We’re NOT.
We’re not stuck. We can fix things and we can make things better. Nothing is permanent.
We’re not trees, and this is a good thing.

Ahhh, great point! There will definitely be opportunities for change in public policy…if we choose to do something about it. Thanks for reading! 😀
Good point!! I love the way you put it. Cos i think this is the one thing that people DO forget…. Besides, complaining is much easier and takes a lot less effort. Its no wonder why people prefer to crib rather than get up and do something about an unpleasant situation.
Well said! Yea, I agree. Complaining requires less effort. It’s also more annoying. So how about we focus on actually doing something about the things we’re unhappy about, yes? Thanks for commenting! 😀
Yes! We can get so overwhelmed that we forget that we’re in control – that we’re in the driver’s seat. It’s really empowering to take back control of your own story!
I always enjoy your posts a lot and I know now I can proudly declare to anyone, “I AM NOT A TREE!” Thanks a lot.
Reminds me of that saying “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” Nothing worse than listening to someone complain and go on and on about an issue and know that they are not doing a damn thing at all to change their situation. Cheers!….. to solutions, change and trying a different approach!
“I am not a tree” – thanks, now I know what my next tattoo will be. Okay, maybe not such a good idea, but it sure would be a consistent reminder ;).
Thanks for the awesome reminder! 🙂 Just what I needed to hear today!
Kayla, I truly appreciate the candor and realness of your blog; I enjoy reading it. One thing I’d like to add to what you’re saying here is the importance of the change withIN. You are correct, we are creators, and we do have the power to affect change in our lives – far more than most of us realize. But what many of us neglect is the importance of the change that needs to occur INSIDE of us, mainly because we are so focused on what is taking place on the OUTSIDE. Everything we experience is created INSIDE first, then manifests outwardly. Failure to realize that what’s occurring outside is merely a reflection/result of what’s happening on the Inside is a common disconnection. Our entire Universe is a reflection of what is happening collectively within the human consciousness.
So, I want to remind your/our readers to focus first internally on changing YOU, not what is external of YOU. We have to BE(come) the change we desire to SEE(come).
LOVE,

So true. “Be the change you want to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
…this is the second post I’ve seen today about people being/not being trees. Freaky.
Very true, especially for the personal examples you mention. But what about those who see ways to improve their organization, but are not in a position where anyone will listen or their suggestions will have any force? That’s a more difficult situation to overcome.
This is a great post, you are so correct that we are not planted in one place and cannot move, we can create change in our lives.
Thanks for the inspirational post
Now that is really loaded. I love the way you put. I need to read this everyday, It will constantly remine me that I am the driver of my own car, and I determine where and when I want to go.
Thanks for the wake-up call!
Love it! Love it, love it, love it! I got told by a colleague about something I did “to them” back in August. AUGUST! It is not only good advice for me to take on for myself but in my mind, I know who are (and who are not) the “trees” that I work with. Don’t get me wrong, I love trees, but good to be able to identify them so you don’t expect them to be a rocket or a racecar instead.
Great attitude you have. And I enjoy your writing style. You seem to be following the path of personal freedom Harry Browne describes in “How I found freedom in an Unfree World”. I look forward to further posts.
