I’ve had a crazy week.
On Thursday, I was in the emergency room, diagnosed with vertigo.
WTF were my first thoughts. What the hell is vertigo, and isn’t that something only old people get? Well, this 26 year old couldn’t walk straight Thursday morning so I guess young people get it too.
One injection to my butt later, I was sent home to rest for a couple days. But despite how tired I was and how badly I wanted to bum out on my couch, I still had work to do.
I still had e-mails that needed to go out, posts that had to be updated, and about 50 other things on my to-do list that I needed to get to. So much freaking work.
But I did it.
And it reminded me of one of my favorite lessons from Lisa Messenger’s Daring & Disruptive (aka, one of the most inspirational book I’ve read in a long time.)
Basically, that we need to do the work.
There are so many of us out there who have AMAZING ideas.
Thoughts.
Game-changers.
Content that should be read by everyone.
But how many of us are acting on them, huh?
How many of us are doing the things we say we want to do?
Are we doers or are we thinkers?
Or are we just perpetual excuse-makers?
And I get it, it’s hard to get up day after day and DO THINGS.
Good God my life would be so much easier if I quit this blog and just focused on my day job.
I’d have so much more energy and I wouldn’t be so damn tired all the time.
That’s the truth.
But I can’t do that.
I can’t do that because there are things I NEED to accomplish.
I’ve got goals, baby, and I’m in the process of making them happen.
You know, when people learn that I wrote a book, they sometimes freak out and they think it’s like I’ve accomplished something that they’re incapable of doing.
But what I did is something that anyone can do!
Dude, I wrote my book in THREE MONTHS.
And sure, I think I’m a pretty smart person, but I’m not a freaking rocket scientist! There are people WAY smarter than me, thankfully.
But the difference between people who’ve accomplished anything and those who haven’t is that they’ve done the work.
That’s it.
They’ve put in time and effort and energy and have actually done something.
So if there’s something you want to accomplish, quit thinking that you’re not capable of doing it, and DO THE WORK.
Get off your butt and write that book, record that song, or do whatever it is that you keep SAYING you want to do!
“As an entrepreneur, you forge ahead against the odds and you’re told “no” endless times, but it’s important to remember that most people around you, and the material life around us, was created by people no smarter than you. You are no different, no lesser than or less capable of, changing the world than the next person. You have just as many hours in the day as Steve Jobs did or as Oprah Winfrey or Richard Branson does…We are only limited by our own belief systems; our own ways that we perpetuate self-sabotage.”
Remember, the only way to achieve anything is to get started.
So go do that!
Sending nothing but good vibes your way, guys!

Hey there! It’s so funny that this post went up today because last night over on my blog (ohhappyhotalings.com) I posted about how I’m tired of making excuses for myself and I needed a hard hit of the truth from my hubby to get me back in my goals. This post totally helped this new motivation I have. Thank you! ??
Thanks for the good vibes today!!
Thanks for the motivation!!! It’s so true you have to put effort in to get results! Thanks again!
Very inspirational post! I love that quote you shared.
Love this! I definitely need to read this today!
I’m sorry to hear about your recent hospital visit! Is vertigo permanent? I know it has to do with balance, something with ears…or something like that! Also, talk about butt injections…ever had the strep shot? Talk about a knot on the butt…sheesh.
I can for sure be a thinker. I have spent all of this year trying to be more of a doer! Love this post!
Just the motivation I needed! P.S. my dad had vertigo briefly and discovered that there’s a series of simple head movements you can do to make it go away.. It might be worth researching a bit!

YES YES YES YES YES!! I’m a major dreamer who is constantly thinking of good ideas and man, it gets OVERWHELMING! But despite the work and the hustle, THIS is what fuels my fire and gets me waking up and excited for each day and the potential it brings.
Love this! We can all accomplish amazing things if we set our minds to it.
Oh no! I’ve never experienced vertigo (knock on wood) but I’ve heard horrible things about it. I hope you’re feeling better now!
I really needed this today! Thank you so much! I’m ready to get out there and just do the work now!
While having goals and being motivated is great and people should definitely work hard and strive for them, it’s also important to take care of yourself when you’re sick! My Dad is someone who will work through every sickness, and he has ended up with walking pneumonia more than once. No bueno! Be sure to take care of yourself girl!
I really enjoyed reading this post. It’s Wednesday now, but hey, it’s motivation all the same LOL. I agree with this 100% and so glad I read this as I’m ready to tackle the rest of the week. I’m finalizing some items on my new blog, so wish me luck!
PS: Hope you’re feeling better, Kayla!
Thanks so much, Shazie! Luckily I’m back to normal (for now)! Really glad you enjoyed the post! Yea, motivation is motivation ANY day of the week! Just checked out your blog and it’s great! Definitely keep me posted on the projects you’re working on and if there’s anyway I can help, let me know! Enjoy the rest of your week! xoxoxxox, Kayla
YES! I am such a believer of that phrase “Do the work.” I am a dancer and lifestyle blogger, and Robert Battle, artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater said, “I am a human being, and nothing human can be alien to me.” If we put in the work, we can achieve anything. We look at others who have achieved greatness like you said Steve Jobs and Oprah Winfrey, and immediately put them in a different level, but truly they are humans who put in the work. In order to achieve greatness we have to know we are worthy and capable of greatness. I just wrote your blog, so I am happy to read more posts.
