Want to know a secret?
If I didn’t work out on the regular, I’d probably weigh about thirteen thousand pounds.
Like, no joke, it’s amazing what happens to your body over a period of 5 years, and NOT in a good way.
Dude, I used to be able to eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I wanted! But no, not anymore.
Yayyyy for adulting!
Anyway, I’ve been talking a lot about fitness on the blog lately, because I’ve been trying to carve out more time for working out.
As a busy millennial, I’m running around all day, and I don’t get a whole lot of me-time. And because I don’t get a lot of me-time, I don’t have time to spend hours at the gym, so instead, I try to keep as much gear as I can at home, so that whenever I find tiny little gaps in my day, I can get a quick workout in.
So here are some of the things I recommend you have handy either at home or packed in a gym bag in your car.
1. Fitbit
I use my Apple Watch to track my progress, but if you don’t have one of those, invest in a Fitbit. I really love tracking my progress, because it makes working out a little more exciting. Comparing my progress from week to week gives me something to strive for and it’s a total motivator since I’m ultra-competitive (even with myself, I guess.)
2. Kettlebell
This is probably one of my favorite pieces of workout equipment. There’s just so much you can do with it. You can use it to do weighted squats and weighted situps. You can also use it to workout your arms simply by lifting it above your head. Lots of potential with this one, so I love having one around the house.
3. Jump Rope
I don’t know how, but when I was younger, I could jump rope for hours. Now, after like 15 seconds, I’m done. Regardless of how tired I am though, I really like being able to grab a jump rope because it’s an amazing cardio workout and helps build endurance. So even if you’re not a fan of lifting weights and that kind of thing, you can definitely get a good workout in with one of these.
4. Water Bottle
This one’s a no brainer, but it’s important to have water available to you at all times. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Or you’ll pass out on the floor and die.
5. ZonePerfect® Nutrition Bars
There’s nothing worse than totally ruining your workout with unhealthy snacks, so I found these at Walmart the other day and OMG they’re amazing.
Okay, the cinnamon roll bars…I could very easily eat one every single day for the rest of my life.
They taste like a legit cinnamon roll, minus the guilt. SO GOOD.
These ZonePerfect® Nutrition bars are perfect for those of us looking for a healthy snack option, and they fit right in with our high energy lifestyle.
You know, if you’re like me, you’re constantly on the go, and it’s way too easy to fall into bad eating habits.
But do you really want to ruin your diet and all your workout efforts just because you’re busy?
No, you don’t, so keep >ZonePerfect® Nutrition bars handy, and you won’t have to.
I now keep at least one of these in my purse at all times, and whenever I get a craving to eat something pre or post workout, I grab one.
DELISH.
6. Fitness Headphones
I’ve said it a million times already, but I can’t workout without music or a podcast or SOMETHING! My ADD immediately kicks in, and I get bored in less than five minutes. So in order to facilitate a good workout, I always carry a pair of headphones on me. Like that I can catch up on all my latest shows, listen to my current audiobook, and/or totally jam out to my latest playlist on Spotify.
7. Resistance Bands
I LOVE THESE. Like, seriously, go get some of these, now. Here’s a total body workout you can do with resistance bands. These are so convenient to have in your gym bag because they’re super light, but produce amazing results when you work with them. This set in particular comes with 3 bands of different resistances, so you can start off with a looser band and then progress to the more difficult ones.
So that’s all I’ve got for you today!
Head on over to Walmart and pick up some fitness gear! Everyone’s different, so start off with whatever you’re comfortable with, and build your way up. The important thing is that you’re doing SOMETHING, because it’s way too easy these days to become a total couch potato who gets ZERO exercise, and that’s NO BUENO.
And to get you going, print out this 30-day pushup challenge that I grabbed from Gauntlet Crossfit (I just made it prettier to look at).
You’ll be amazed at what you’re really capable of if you stay consistent.
Best of luck!!! Let me know how it goes!
